The entire wear process of the ceramic corundum abrasive prepared by the sol-gel method is also the self-sharpening process of the abrasive particles. During the service life, the surface layer of the abrasive particles After the blunted tiny grains fall off the abrasive grains under the action of the grinding force, new sharp tiny grinding edges will be continuously exposed, so that the abrasive grains are always in a sharp state.Abrasive tools made of ceramic corundum abrasives have the characteristics of long life, good self-sharpening, high cutting efficiency and not easy to burn workpieces.The ceramic corundum abrasive prepared by the sol-gel method has different microstructures, so the fracture behavior of the abrasive particles is different.Ceramic corundum abrasives show intergranular fracture failure, while traditional fused corundum abrasive grains mostly exhibit transcrystalline fracture failure. The abrasive grain toughness of ceramic corundum abrasives is much higher than that of traditional fused corundum abrasive grains.The chemical composition of the ceramic corundum abrasive prepared by the sol-gel method is purer than that of white corundum, with much less impurities, and higher hardness than white corundum. Its uniform and fine microcrystalline structure, high toughness and micro-fragmentation performance make it in grinding Tool steel, various alloy steels and other difficult-to-process materials are widely used.

Characteristics of abrasive tools made of ceramic abrasive 

(1)Sharp abrasive grains, strong cutting ability and high grinding efficiency.It can carry out high-efficiency grinding with large depth of cut and large feed.

(2)Good toughness, low wear, good shape retention of the grinding wheel, used for precision grinding and profile grinding, easy to obtain high dimensional accuracy.

(3)The grinding wheel has high durability and long service life, which can reach 5 to 10 times that of ordinary corundum grinding wheels. The replacement frequency is low, which reduces auxiliary processing time and downtime, which is beneficial to the use of CNC automatic machine tools to realize automated production.

(4)The grinding wheel has good self-sharpening properties, is not easy to block, can maintain stable grinding performance, can reduce the amount of correction (about 1/3 of the general corundum grinding wheel), reduce the number of corrections, and improve production efficiency.

(5)There is no need for special grinding equipment and correction devices, there are no special requirements and correction difficulties for CBN and diamond in grinding equipment, and there are no special requirements for grinding fluids, so it is easy to promote and use.
